We went to an outdoor amphitheater in Richfield to see a show that “brought to life the music and news of 1966 in a delightful, moving, and rockin’ show.” I got an email from the Illusion theater (because we have been patrons in the past) and it sounded intriguing. My brother, Dave, motorcycled up today, and he and Keith and I got Jersey Mike’s sandwiches to picnic at the show and headed across town.
It was really good. The news of 1966 was especially interesting. Apparently, the US accidentally dropped 4 hydrogen bombs on southern Spain. They didn’t detonate their nuclear payloads, so Spain is still intact. It took 80 days to find the one that landed in the Mediterranean. We were not familiar with that accident. The racism of 1966 hasn’t gone away nearly as much as we would have wished. I knew all the TV theme songs – because TeeeeeVeeeee! There were commercials for Twister, Lite Brite, and some cereal that obviously didn’t last long.
David had a super interesting thing happen last night. While he was watching TV, he heard a sharp sound. He had no idea what it could have been. As he wondered, he heard some quiet “ping” sounds. They kept happening. He walked around, trying to figure it out, until he found one of the panes in the internal door between the living room and sunroom was just crackling – one break at a time – breaking into a gazillion pieces. By morning, it was even more crackled. He has no idea why it decided to do that, but now they have art.
I also remember 1966 well but had no idea about the ‘present’ America gave Spain.
Ask any English about 1966 and they would say ‘The only time we won the World Cup .’
(Football/Soccer)
Love the venue.
Dave needs to take a photo of the single pane of glass and frame it. Then he could have a piece of art!
🙂
I think he should keep the pane just like it is – of course, it could all fall out without a moment’s notice, so there is that.
World Cup! I had no idea. Now I will have that piece of trivia at the ready – in case it comes up some day.
Isn’t the venue nice? We watched geese come in for the night as it got dark. A bonus to the show. It is behind a grocery store, off a busy city street. I would never have known it was there. I will be on the lookout for events there next year.
