The backyard gatherings have been absolutely terrific this summer. To celebrate that and to end the weekly gatherings until next year, today there was a hot dog and s’more roast.
I was sitting back from the circle (avoiding the rotating smoke that liked to follow me) with my friend and he said, “Listen. Hear that? The sound of happy chatter – people connecting. It’s what I came for today, to hear it.”
We listened. It was a wonderful sound. There was a big circle of 20 people, plates on their laps, just happily talking to each other. It really was pleasant, and I am so glad we savored it together.
This is called “quality life.”
