Keith is playing flugelhorn this season and it is just strange. He is in the wrong place. But he is sounding terrific. He has a bunch of little solo-y bits and sounds great. He has one stand-in-front-of-the-band song and sounds lovely (flugelhorn adjective) on that one too.
I had a companion in the audience tonight. The regular soprano player’s 11-year-old son was along. He sent him over to sit by me. I asked about his Roadblocks game, and I showed him the weird book I am reading with no punctuation. We didn’t talk much, because we were being polite audience members. Keith played and he told me Keith was good. I said his dad was good. He agreed. After about 45 minutes, he looked at me and said, “It was very nice to meet you.” I asked if he was leaving (in the middle of a song, more than half an hour before the end of rehearsal). “Yes.” And off he went to sit with his dad.
I like that kid.
