Gettin’ the band back together

Sunday, August 11, 2024

Keith had a Metro Brass rehearsal tonight for the first time since early April 2023. I mentioned it to Benjamin and Sean (we were driving to see a middle school science teacher at his retirement home. He had been in the hospital for a long stretch and is stable and back to his home. We planned a visit, since they were here for the weekend. Sean suggested bringing a treat, but I said no food, because he is very careful with his diet. As we were chatting, Sean pulled a plastic container of purple tomatoes out of her pocket. Hilarious! Of course, a science teacher’s eyes would light up with something so unexpected. They had a good little chat about the genetics of the plants and its virtues. He took one for a treat – and one for a neighbor. Perfect!) and Benjamin said he imagined The Daddy driving around, picking each member of the band up from their meanwhile gigs – working in a restaurant kitchen, a carwash, etc – and Sean said they would all be wearing work hats that they would crumple up and throw on the ground when they just stood straight up and walked out to be back in the band.

I totally believe that is what happened after the potd was taken.

Keith said his goodbyes and left us all in heaps in the blue chairs. I said, “Oh, I was going to get a family picture this weekend.” Everyone walked out the front door and stood in the driveway while he was putting stuff in the car. Then he tried to just back out without stopping to ask why we were all standing outside.

We flagged him down and pointed out that that was weird. He said he thought we were all just standing outside now.

Okay.

We got a family picture.
