Behind the Sun

We went to the History Theater to see the play Behind the Sun. It was a black family in 1958 trying to buy a house in Minneapolis. They were unable to get a loan, even though they had jobs, because they lived in a bad neighborhood. They couldn’t get out of the bad neighborhood because they couldn’t get a loan. Realtors were restricted from selling houses in “white” neighborhoods to anyone black. They had white friends (from the army) trick the realtor and were able to buy a house. You can correctly assume the neighbors did not welcome them warmly.

The play was good and well done, but the story was disgusting and sad. I feel like if Kamala Harris doesn’t win in November, that is where we are headed again, and it is terrifying.
