A more than ample reward

I canceled a job I had scheduled for today. I did it about a week ago…maybe longer. I knew the job would be immediately picked up by someone else, and that it didn’t matter at all if I was the one to do it, but it was reallllly hard for me to cancel. Once I sign up, I feel obligated, which is the way I think it should be. But this time, I decided to put into action what everyone always says is the best part of my job – I can work, or not work, when I want to. The backyard get-together people were meeting at the assisted living place that one of our members is living. He is “inside mobile”, but not getting out of his building. I really wanted to be part of the group that drove over. I really wanted to just be with the backyard people before fall really arrives and we don’t meet again until spring. So, I cancelled.

And then I volunteered to be the driver in a carpool. Ha! Me! The driver. It is NOT far away and I did just fine. 🙂 I had three others with me, helpfully giving directions so I didn’t have to deal with the GPS lady, because she makes me nervous. I think she is judgy – all that make a U-turn and whatnot if you make a mistake. We got there, joined five others, and had a great visit. There was lots of election talk (most of these people are really active volunteers with the DFL. I am proud to know them), but also lots of random stories and laughing.

My riders and I decided to go to a Vietnamese restaurant for lunch afterwards. What a second lovely activity.

I am very glad I decided to choose my fun life instead of working. Yay me.

(Keith played a concert in River Falls tonight, featuring the music of Greg Fritze. Greg was there and all was enjoyable for him, too.)
