A Bridge not Far

Benjamin and I have been hit with inspiration. We love the promenade portion of our deck. It is a 30-foot long, 4-foot wide walkway from the chairs part of the deck to the grill part of the deck. We think it is awesome. We have decided that we should make a deck addition of a bridge diagonally across the back yard to an oasis island in the back corner. The whole thing will be the same height as the deck. Or the island could have a spiral staircase and be one level higher. Still thinking about that. There has been a lot of input from the others on making a rope bridge, or a zip line, or other things, but all of that is still under advisement. Benjin and I are looking forward to being able to commentary on the bocce ball games from above. And using the bridge as a volley club net. So many benefits.

As we studied the backyard for our plan, I noticed we have literally been carving out a trail between houses. Teehee. Daniel suggested we just put down pavers right now and get it done with.

I got Benjamin and Alexander together to look at toys and pick what will stay and what can go. They both agreed that they were ready to part with things, because awesome things should be shared with others. They then made a large pile of what should stay. I pretty much loved it. Who trained them to love their stuff and be sentimental? No one knows. Alexander wondered if there would still be sawdust in the outside pocket of his tiny suitcase. Apparently, he put a bunch of those tiny white packets you throw on the ground to bang for the 4th of July in there and they got smashed and the sawdust got all in the pocket. It was still there.

Benjamin found his first trumpet and gave us a solo. It was improvised – you can tell because his eyes are closed. That’s how I can tell Keith is making things up as he goes.

Keith finished the floor in his office and it looks great with the new paint. He and Michael rebuilt Radiator Springs and everything is back to normal. Yay!

We went to Tono for cheesesteaks. The breeze got breezy, and it was chilly, but good company makes that inconsequential.

  1. I note that Radiator Springs is in its same configuration. As one who isn’t overly fond of change, I approve. The “intended” set up is nice and all of that, but it’s easier to SEE everything in this configuration. The deck addition idea has promise!!!
