A craft like no other

Happy day after Maren’s birthday.

I was trying to figure out a good gift to celebrate the birthday and thought of something, that made me think of something else, which led to something else. We started on that. Then changed it. Then thought of a better way to do it. Then started it and expanded it. Then changed it quite a bit. Then decided to make it an advent calendar. Then decided to make it a count down to Halloween calendar at midnight the night before. I absolutely love the fact that I was able to find more than the necessary 26 toilet paper rolls in my house on a random Friday night at midnight. (Full disclosure, I do keep just in case I need to make an advent calendar, or six. Sometimes things just pop up)

I believe that there is not another October 5-31 countdown calendar anywhere, and definitely not one with individually created item in each day. We delivered it a day late, because we weren’t done making it before Maren went out to celebrate her day. Before we left today, Keith said that the back was a little loose – I had secured it only on the perimeter and he pointed out that meant the items could slide out of their tubes and just migrate around. Darn. I kept everything tipped forward after that…but when the first day’s tissue was broken open, there was no prize. We made Mollie run all over the place looking for glue or hot glue (which? Whichever…no glue…no hot glue…glue will be fine…sure hot glue if you found that…and on) while we tore the back off and reglued it. Keith did all the work while I kept Maren’s eyes facing the other way. She wasn’t going to peek, but when I was trying to fix things I found I was unable to chat at the same time. That was weird and awkward, so Keith had to be chief crafter. He is so good.

I have no idea which item will arrive on each day. I hope she likes them all.
