A lunch plan

Monday, October 6, 2025

I made sure I wasn’t working today, because our new IKEA cabinets were being delivered. I planned to help. They arrived before 10am. Our COBRA health insurance is messed up, so Keith spent from 10-11am on the phone, trying to figure it out. It was going in the right direction when he got hung up on. No one called back. All the information had been given to the two companies (COBRA people and Blue Cross people) and theoretically they could figure it out and fix it. Or they could say forget that guy, he’s gone. He didn’t try to find those reps and will try again in a few days if nothing gets fixed.

Alexander was coming for salmon for dinner, which we needed to buy at Sam’s Club. And we needed to go to CVS to pick up medication (to pay for it, having been told we will be reimbursed). I was hungry by this point and suggested Arby’s, because we got coupons on the first of the month. I said we could get Alexander sandwiches for tomorrow, since he would be here tonight. He likes leftover Arby’s easy to reheat.

I said, “We can Arby for lunch and get extras for Alexander, but if we are going to Sam’s and getting him a few things, maybe we should save that for another day.”

Keith said, “I like Arby’s.”

“Yes. I am hungry. I could make a sammich before we go. Or we could Arby. But is this the best day to use the only 4/$10? We can only get 12 sammiches with this coupon. I’d love to take two sammiches for lunch tomorrow. Alexander will have his usual 8. You can have two for tomorrow, or we could each have one today and something else, or we could just eat at home and not worry about it.”

“I would have more than one.”

“Yes. We would have something else. Beef and cheddars – 2 for $6. Or I could have a beef and cheddar meal with fries and a drink. Do they have a Freestyle machine? So many good sugar free choices.”

“No, but they have Dr. Pepper Zero and Coke Zero.”

“Where is there a Freestyle machine we just were at? Wayback?”

“No. Wayback has Coke Zero.”

“Hmmmm. Who has a Wayback machine?”

“Mr. Peabody and Sherman.”

Serious laughing

“Okay. Should we just eat at home?”

“No. We will have beef and cheddars for $6 and an order of fries for $1 and drink water. And get all the regular roast beefs to go.”

“Okay. Or we could just eat at home. That makes more sense. We can save the coupons for when we are actually needing someone else to cook for us. We are getting some groceries for Alexander.”

“Let’s just go.”

We had beef and cheddars and an order of fries AND a fully paid for medium soda (light lemonade!), then got 12 sandwiches to go for later. The order taker lady gave Keith the coupons back.

Alexander came for salmon. He was surprised and happy about Arby’s. We did nothing with the IKEA stuff.
