A Palindrome

Nineteen years ago (in two weeks) we spontaneously bought a convertible. We had been to Disney World in August and it seemed like we saw a little PT cruiser convertible at every stop light. Some rental company had definitely stocked up on them. A bit after we got home, it came into the mind to wonder how much they cost. NOT to buy one, but just out of curiosity, since there were SO many for rent. I went on the Chrysler website and started looking around. I just got to the prices when something pulled me away, then I started dinner, and forgot all about it.

Keith came home and instantly said, “Are we buying a convertible?” No, you silly man.

The next day when I came home from grocery shopping, he said we had a 1pm appointment to test drive a car. Um. What? Why? We are NOT in the market. We don’t need a convertible.

Before we went, I made sure the checkbook (remember those?) was at home.

Turns out you don’t need a checkbook. We bought a car. I had panic and had to wake Keith up for several nights in a row worrying about such a ridiculous purchase. He was solid the whole time.

It turns out that riding around in a convertible is absolutely terrific. We love it so much. It has been a great car – nothing needed so far beyond oil changes. We went out tonight to go the last 14 miles to turn over the odometer. We stopped three times for pictures. Keith likes the 9s. I thought I wanted the zeros, but then that beautiful 6-digit palindrome showed up. Win!

  1. Here’s my wonderment… And I guess this has happened with all manner of cars…. But do you ever wonder – will a PT Cruiser REALLY go 140 miles per hour??? (With or without the top down???) Not that I expect an answer to that question, mind you….
