A surprise Cabaret

Keith got his latest COVID vaccine and a flu shot last night. I woke up early this morning, first worrying that he would wake up feeling sick (because I do after the vaccine) and then worrying that he might wake up deaf, because that happened the first time.

He woke up fine.

Phew.

So I made him dig in the dirt. We moved some plants that were not thriving in the front yard to the back yard to make room for a bag of tulips. It was a hot day – 80 degrees – and the goal was to float in the sunshine. But we got distracted by strangely lower than expected prices for flights to the UK. We got stars in our eyes thinking about jumping on a flight in November to go to see Brass in Concert – a day-long event outside of Newcastle Upon Tyne of brass bands trying to put on the most entertaining concert. We looked at times and dates and coming through London then training or flying, should we spend time in London or just go to Newcastle? There were so many choices. We came to no conclusions and finally went out to dig and plant and watch digging and planting at noon.

We eventually got to some floating, although the sun is so low now that we didn’t have shininess upon us. We showered and napped a little before leaving for Hudson for a show at the Phipps. While we were eating dinner, Keith asked if I knew what band was performing. I gave him a very confused look.

“We are going to see Cabaret.” I’d seen it on my calendar several times this week while we were still in New England, and noted it this morning (remember to go to a show tonight!).

He shook his head. “No. It’s A Cabaret. Not Cabaret.”

Oh. Mmm. That made sense because I didn’t remember getting tickets to Cabaret. I was glad. A cabaret sounded like a new something to enjoy.

AND IT WAS! A vocalist and a piano-playing vocalist sang songs about fall – and because it is still trying to be summer (80 degrees!) – and summer. They were both solid entertainers and the evening was delightful. We have tickets to a second cabaret evening later in the season and I would be delighted if they sing about winter and spring to me then. I’ll be sure to let you know.
