After 4th of July Bocce Ball tournament

We always have a bocce ball tournament on the 4th of July, but this year things went a bit differently because Keith had a concert that evening and the party broke up early. We had our championship prizes – which were still on the refrigerator – so yesterday I thought I would try to gather a few folks to play and swim and have some times today. We only had one person say she could come, so we thought we would try again another time.

Then Daniel and Amanda said today that they could come. Our one person from yesterday had made other plans today, so it was just the four of us. We swam.

We made Gizmo sandwiches, like at the fair. Daniel was there yesterday and had one. He said our knock-offs were pretty good copies. We also made homemade French fries, because they are from the fair too. Keith went to the store to get all the ingredients, then went back to the store to get potatoes after we realized if the deep fryer was coming out, we needed fries, too. He chopped and mixed and got everything ready while the rest of us were swimming. He should get a BEST PERSON prize.

We tried to make mini donuts. They did not work. We did make some bready sticks that were pretty good with hot fudge. Keith had laid in a supply of ice cream, in case of donut failure. And because he likes ice cream. Amanda put a bready stick under her ice cream and reported that it was good.

We talked a lot about President trivia – making it seem like it was the 4th of July (to be clear – we have never done that on the 4th of July, but we probably should. Everyone’s favorite trivia – there is a LIVING man whose grandfather [10th president John Tyler] was born in 1790, when George Washington was president and whose father was 8 when the Civil war started. Boggles my mind. Three generations cover almost the entire history of the United States). Then we remembered we were supposed to be playing bocce ball.

We made up our six team double elimination tournament bracket. Teams were Amanda and Daniel, Barbara and Keith, Daniel and Keith, Amanda and Barbara, Daniel and Barbara, and Keith and Amanda. Night fell and we played by phone light. We didn’t get to play the losers’ bracket, but all competitors agreed that was okay. Amanda and I won! We got magnets!
