Ain’t Too Proud

The last several times we have gone to see shows downtown in St. Paul, Keith has commented on a restaurant across the street from our parking ramp. “We should come early and go there sometime.” I always agree, and then immediately forget all about it. While we were planning the menu for this week, he suggested planning to go to Jackey’s Peg Leg before seeing Ain’t Too Proud, the story of the Temptations. I was very impressed with his forethoughtiousness (that is an Alexander word).

We left early and got to the Peg Leg about five minutes before 6, plenty of time to eat before the 7:30 curtain.

Except that it wasn’t open.

Huh. The outside lights were on. The dart board lights inside were on, but the rest of the place was dark. Mmmm. The website said nothing about ooops, we went out of business or anything like that. We hustled a couple blocks to The Loon Cafe and had lovely sandwiches. We would definitely go there again if we were in the neighborhood.

The show was very good. The guys in the show must loose ten pounds every night because they are DANCING all the time. Everyone was very talented, and we enjoyed it very much. When I asked the people behind us to stop having a conversation after the second act started, they seemed so confused as to what I was talking about. The people to my left and the two women ahead of me sang along, but luckily once the songs really kicked in, I couldn’t hear them.

As we headed back to the car, we noticed the OPEN sign and the lights were on at Jackey’s Peg Leg.

Okay.

What?

It was on the far corner of the intersection, and I wasn’t curious enough to walk over and find out what was up with that. Now I am quite curious what was up with that.

  1. My goodness, I believe you are right. I think I always give Alexander credit for creating words…but he doesn’t create as much as he smashes together. I call family word.
