Amanda’s Birthday

Friday, January 23, 2026

It was a beautiful day – sunny and warm. Benjamin went to California Adventure to play his game and the rest of us started at Disneyland. You have to make a park reservation in advance and can’t park hop until 11am.

Keith and I rode Big Thunder 3 times before Daniel and Amanda arrived with beignets. What a delight. Then we rode again.

We did lots and laughed lots. Amanda got a fabulous new outfit – sweater jersey and hat.

D and A left about 4:00 for a rest and snack. I was so sleepy, but TB and Keith were doing fine. I led us to the back of the BBQ restaurant where no one else was and announced I was taking a nap. Benjamin joined me while Keith looked at his phone. We were in full sight of both the train and the riverboat. I hope someone was proud of us for wrangling our time so well. When I woke up, and Benjamin’s head was still on the table, I asked Keith if he had taken our picture. No, of course not. I went back to resting. He didn’t take our picture then, either. I did take his picture when I was ready to go and he thought he might rest. Silly man.

There is a screaming-on-rides culture here. It is quite interesting and very loud. On all exciting rides, everyone seems to scream. On Tower of Guardians everyone screams every time we go up and down. They scream through all of Big Thunder. It’s kinda fun while seeming very odd.

The line for the shuttle home was super long, so we walked. That was stupid. Just plain stupid. Oh, we don’t want to stand here for 20 minutes waiting, so we will walk. Like walking doesn’t hurt at this point. Stupid. Then I realized I was 499 steps short of 30,000 steps so I had to walk up and down the hall a bunch of times to get to 30,018. It’s after midnight, so the pictures are coming in a nonsense row. Enjoy.
