Argylle

We went to see Argylle tonight. I enjoyed it (not a big surprise to anyone. It’s a movie). It stars Bryce Dallas Howard. She plays a novelist who is in peril and being hunted by spies. Her character is an “every woman.” I was distracted a couple times by the fact that she was not svelte. She looks like a real person (although I bet she is NOWHERE close to actually the size of a real person. The camera adds 10 pounds, you know). Anyway, I wondered if they padded her a bit to make her look like a real person. I thought they should have hired an actress that was shaped like a real person, if that is what they were going for.

I looked it up as we drove home. Everyone on the internet wants to know if she gained weight for the role. No one (but me) seemed to wonder if they artificially added weight. She said she is done talking about her body, but did say she told the director that if he wanted someone “sample size” (model size 4 or smaller) he should look elsewhere. He assured her he hired her because he wanted her.

Nice.
