Art in Bloom

Jerry and Barbara are here from Michigan. Huzzah!!! They arrived this morning from Eau Claire after driving for ten hours yesterday. They had the great idea of visiting the Minneapolis Institute of Arts for Art in Bloom – over 100 floral arrangements coordinated with works of art. We had a spectacular time. We ooohed and ahhhhed about the very first one but were able to start being judgy by the second on (the color palette seemed off…). I took A LOT of pictures (commensurate with enjoying myself very much) and I have put some of the lot up for viewing. I learned a new, faster way to attach the pictures to the POTD, so I am excited. I will hop in with a few comments, because there are a few comments to be made.

Oh! The POTD itself! It was drizzly, so we shared an umbrella on our block and a half walk in. Jerry extremely deftly parallel parked, then we held our breaths as a car tried to copy the maneuver in the spot in front of us. He got up on the curb to help…and went back and forth…and we gave words of instruction and encouragement from inside our car until he gave up and pulled out. We got a bag for the umbrella. It took three adults five minutes (or so) to get the bag open to get the umbrella in. We were high spirits before we even got into the exhibits.

Too copy-catty? Too on the nose? Maybe.
Jerry wonders if he was the first trans person. Barbara suggested he was just wearing the dress for his sister who was late for the sitting…
I think I could coordinate flowers to art if I got a black vase as the art
Those are bamboos, not cinnamon sticks. You probably got that. I didn’t…at first. That would be BIG cinnamon
I like it, but it feels like cheating
Very literal
They aren’t flowers; they are Barbara and Jerry and a giant piece of jade
This lady was proud to still fit into her wedding dress. Beautiful. What I should have taken a picture of was the painting to the right. It looked like a shot from CSI where the bad guy dressed cadavers in wedding dresses. NOT a good look
Look at the art. Jerry says if those are her feet, she is 6’9″. Barbara thought maybe they are someone else’s feet, like in a horse costume – one is the head, one is the feet. The dog is saying, “Who is under there.”
Do you know that Winnie the Pooh song, “I’m just a little black rain cloud” (or something like that…)
Pussy Willows added so much movement to the flower arrangements. Good on ya.
A literal interpretation of a very not literal art
I assume the floral designer said to her husband, “Make me a vase that looks like an ox with really big horns.” Many husbands are helpful that way.
Sometimes you have to zoom in because the flowers are just that beautiful
I really loved this one. I really loved this art. I think I will make one for my new house. My new house is very beige.
I loved the colors in this one. Nailed it
Great colors here too
If I say colors again. that will be lame. But….
Giant bug. Weird
I really, really liked this one. A snobby looking lady came by with a guide who asked, “Which painting does this one go with?” Snobby lady pointed at the wrong with an eye roll, like it was obvious. I realllly wanted to say, “Ha! Wrong.” I didn’t.
Motion again with the pussy willows, but the colors are very not right
No flowers with this one, but I liked these whimsical camels and the small man. I thought it looked like a contemporary piece, but it was made between 600 and 900. So apparently their realistic is my whimsy. I’m intrigued with that.

We got home in time to get to Hudson right now time for a birthday dinner with our friend Gary (of Gary and Julie 2). The brass playing men were at one end of the table and while we ladies enjoyed each other’s company. It was a fun night out. I got to hear Keith’s rendition of “How did you meet?” for the first time. It was adorable.
