I always ask the kids a “random question that they cannot know the answer to” to win the treat of taking the attendance to the office. It gives me a little interaction with them, and they think they are winning something. I have to change the question every hour, because of course they tell their friends, thinking they will fool me.
Today I asked 3rd hour to which United States state I am going to for vacation in June. After we had no winners in the first round, I told them it was west of the Mississippi River. Someone pointed out that there was a map in the room. It was a painted map with colored states and state names – nothing else. You could see if from all over. I pointed out that EAST is toward Maine and Florida; WEST is toward California and Hawaii, and no it isn’t Hawaii. After no correct answers after round two (wrong answers included North and South Carolina, Maine, Virginia, Kentucky, and Oklahoma 8 times), I covered up the east side of the map with a big piece of paper. Neither Iowa nor Missouri were guessed so far. We had about a dozen guesses before a winner – Missouri – was found. There could not have been more excitement if there was big money on the line!
Fourth hour I asked how many beads were on my necklace – hence the potd of me. Number guesses are always closest to, unless someone gets the right number, then we stop. Most of the people guess between 40 and 60. I got three guesses over 100, until the very last guesser guessed 200. Winner – but not really close. Did you guess a number? It’s fun! Play along.
The first digit is the number of grandkittens we have. The second number is four less than the number of kids in my family (brothers, sisters, and me). The last digit is my favorite number (hint: it’s symmetrical on two planes).
