Keith always talked about picking black caps when he was a kid. I thought his family had made up a name for blackberries, because black caps were not a thing I had ever heard of. I never said anything about it, because I figured if he thought the name was black cap and I asked about it, he would still think the name was black cap.
Then a couple years ago, Tom and Louise invited us to pick black caps at their house.
Huh.
They are a real thing. And they are so tasty. We needed three cups to make a cornmeal galette, and ended up with twice that. Snacking!
Hmmmm….. Never heard of such a thing! I’ll have to see if these exist in Michigan…
If they do, it is time to start picking them. They have lots of thorns, so be prepared 🙂
Ours won’t be ready for a week or two.
