Breadcrumb Noodles

Tuesday, January 3, 2023

Today is my brother-in-law’s birthday, and it was my dad’s birthday. I am thinking good thoughts about both of them. I worked a long day (with no students), handing over all the information to the new guy. He seems like a good guy.

It was gratifying that three teachers I like to sub for contacted me today to ask about subbing for them (since I am suddenly available).

For dinner, I had breadcrumb noodles. I loooove them. It was such a treat when Mom made them when I was a kid. The first time I tried making them as a grown up, I cooked noodles and sprinkled seasoned bread crumbs on them

The breadcrumbs just fell off.

I called home. Oh! Brown the breadcrumbs in butter! Good idea.

Do you have a treat from childhood you still treasure?

  1. I kind of figured that once folks knew you were available again that your time away from subbing was going to be very limited.

Childhood treat: something called “date nut candy.” My Mom made this stuff every Christmas. It’s a LOT of sugar, dates, and pecans. It involves some melting of sugar, adding stuff, letting it cool down, rolling it into logs, and putting it in the refrigerator. I’ve only made it one time (it was since we moved to Michigan) – hadn’t had it in many, many years. I got it so right that when I tasted it, I started crying. I was thinking of trying it again, but there just hasn’t been time. We’ll see…
