It’s not that you need a reason to invite people over, but if you put up holiday decorations, it’s nice to have someone see them. We had a busy day (a fair amount of time was spent in grocery stores while hungry. That is straight up a bad idea), leading up to a wonderful evening with our friends, Tom and Louise. They came over to play games, but we were so busy catching up that we never got to the games. Louise is the super terrific kind of friend who notices and comments on your Christmas decorations and makes you feel all good inside. Yay Louise! Yay for me for having a friend like Louise! Keith and Tom were just as busy talking as Louise and me, plus they were busy eating kringle (Racine Kringle found in Woodbury! Amazing!) and hot and sweet snacker pickles. Oh! And pear apples. Or apple pears. Did you know that even existed? It’s not a new cross of two fruits; it is its own thing. Chinese immigrants planted them in the west during the gold rush days. (Sutter’s Mill. California. 1849. I teach history.) I don’t know why they aren’t more well known. They have a terrific shelf life and are delicious. They are like a very juicy apple with a mild flavor. We saw them at Target today and had to get them to share tonight. I think I should get an apple pear tree (I think a lot of things).
I got another puzzle in my advent calendar today. It was a hard one!! For a while I just had to try every piece in a spot until one fit. I think I might be color blind. I was even more proud of myself for finishing the puzzle without asking for help.
You know… The first thing that came into my head was “…and a partridge in an apple-pear tree.” You CAN make it “fit” the music, you know. You just have to make “partridge” into two equal note values instead of extending the “-ridge” part and transfer that time over to “apple-pear.” (Leave it to a tuba player to come up with something weird like this….) Never heard of these things – must look for them!!!
How could I have missed that!?!?!!
