Digging

Happy Memorial Day.

We went to a garden center to look for perennials. We didn’t really find any, so we bought a whole bunch of annuals. Then we walked around, wondering where to plant them. It was very fun. The very first hole Keith dug he pulled out a spade full of dirt and there was a considerable hole. He dipped the handle down…down…down. It was longer than the handle of the shovel. Um. What? What is the physics of that? We had to be clever about covering the hole, since it was a giant hole and we had 8 cups of dirt. Weird!

Keith has a bad cold and is whomped. He was too tired to go in the pool, so I went alone. I got on my floatie while he went in the house for something. He said when he came out, he knew I was asleep on the floatie because my hand was in the skimmer. Sometimes there are frogs stuck in the skimmer. My hand would never be in the skimmer if I was conscious. (When I woke up, my first thought was that my hand is in the skimmer. Get it out. Do not look. You might be touching a frog. Never know if you are touching a frog.) (The upside of the hand-skimmer thing was that it kept me in the sunny part of the pool. The shade would have been cold.)

  1. Uff da… That hole business is disturbing – the question is “where does it go?” Is “journey to the center of the earth” in the Thompson’s back yard? Anyway, hope Keith is feeling better today. Arizona report: it’s hot here. Lots of tuba players.

  2. Beautiful flowers! We had to put off all gardening until after the conference, so it’s especially nice to see some blooms.
