Dinner and a show

Alexander came over for dinner (and to pick up the gallon of John’s root beer we brought back for him). I was feeling crummy – weird blood pressure/thumpy-heart day that just left me sitting in a chair (then sleeping in a chair) most of the day – so Keith and Alexander cooked dinner. We had a pork and green bean stir fry. It is something Alexander really likes, and I know he makes it for himself, but we had beans from Melanie and pork from the freezer, so that was the menu. Keith readily jumped in when I asked him to cook – Alexander said it has been years since he’s made this meal, and he didn’t remember how. No worries – the daddy was ready and willing. Keith started by getting out a small mixing bowl, because he read out loud from the recipe “in a small mixing bowl”… Alexander jumped up and said, “no, no, I use a tupperware like this to mix the sauce – you can get a good shake on it,” and the cooking team went from there. I sat in the blue chair and just watched (except when the two of them could not find the hoisin sauce – even given hints. I had to walk to the frig and hand it to them. They are adorable) and it was so enjoyable.

There is some wok-ing of beans in oil that can get spatter-y, so Keith was prepared with his new Remy chef coat from Disney World. It is so cute, and he is so cute wearing it. It fits him much better than one of my aprons.

After dinner, EB and her daughter came to go to Artistry theater to see Newsies. It was terrific. We have seen Godspell and Sound of Music there this year and the level of talent has been terrific. It is a professional group, but it is also local. I know we live in a big metro, but I am continually impressed that people with this much singing, dancing, and performing talent live around here. There was one kid in the show, and it turned out that he is in the same grade and school as EB’s daughter. She is not his biggest fan, not entirely because he led a campaign to make cannibalism legal this year at school (Is it illegal? I don’t actually know. I assume it is. Huh), but that didn’t help.

If you are local and like a musical, go see Newsies in Bloomington – it runs until the 18th. The cast is amazing, even the small cannibal.
