Today I was the music sub. I had Kindergartners through 5th graders. We drummed, practiced keyboard and ukelele, and worked on learning the names of the notes on the staff. We did all that in ten thirty-minute classes. Wheeeee!
Kindergarteners are a bit on the wild side when you don’t have them captured with something like “let’s listen to a story”. Saying “let’s hit buckets with pool noodles” might not be the smartest thing to say. Actually, that part went waaaay better than the part when I said, “Listen…”
Fifth graders are just so, so, so much more able to do all of the things than the littles. The thing they can’t do it get in a line.
I have only been to this school once – for half a day last year – and a bunch of kids remembered me. I recognized one when she walked in (one) (and I wondered why she looked familiar). I introduced myself and a bunch of kids asked if I was their sub before. Kids! They actually are learning all the time. Cool.
But the best part is the smiles when they see you and recognize you! Makes you feel good all over more than anywhere else…
It is nice when the littles are excited to see me. It might even be better when middle schoolers come in and say Hi Mrs. Thompson and go on like normal
I would have loved being in your music class. So many fun things to do!
I was so delighted not to show a movie! It was an amazing day. Kudos to the regular teacher, Mrs. Z!
