A long time ago, at a restaurant in Fantasyland there was a side dish called Figaro Fries (the restaurant was Pinocchio Haus). We remember it fondly – heavy on the fondly, light on the remember. I remember it had french fries (not hard, since it’s in the name) and lettuce. Keith does not remember lettuce. He remembers only fries, but he is solid on the fact that is actually wasn’t just an order of fries.
We got the deep fryer out and made French fries when Alexander came for dinner Monday night. Yesterday I said we could made Figaro Fries because we have lettuce. That confused Keith, because of not remember the lettuce part. I looked up Figaro Fries and got the description: a bed of fries heaped with cheese, lettuce, bacon, tomato, and ranch dressing.
I read it out loud and looked at Keith. He looked skeptical. I said, “It doesn’t even really sound good, does it?”
“Nope.”
“Well, we’re having it tomorrow. We have lettuce.”
He was skeptical until he was shoveling it into his mouth. We just stood at the island while the second batch of fries was cooking, eating pretty heartily. Turns out, it takes as long to share one plateful as it does to cook the next round of fries. Pretty perfect.
Wow–the secret to getting people to eat salad-y stuff: Put it on fries! I like it!
I know!! I kept wondering why we ordered it originally…no one but me in this family would eat lettuce by choice. I suppose it was for me, but the others tried it. I bet that crunchy fresh lettuce tasted VERY good after some hot days at Disney World.
