Keith has been singing First time! Connecticut! to the Uh! Oh! SpaghettiOs! tune since we got here. He also has taught me that it is Oh! Oh! SpaghettiOs! because they are Os. So, O O, I guess. I have been singing Uh! Oh! forever and I am afraid it is going to stick, at least for a while.
We continued our journey on the back roads of New York, looking at some fall colors – I am prone to just yell, “Look! Colors! Savor! Appreciate!” Keith assures me he is both savoring and appreciating. We scheduled this trip around other obligations, but also to miss the fall colors and hence, the crowds that come with the leaf peepers. There isn’t a lot of color, but it pops up regularly and we savor and appreciate.
We had our longest drive today – about 290 miles. It was beautiful in Alex Bay, but rained during the last two hours. We are listening to Tom Hanks’ The Making of Another Motion Picture Masterpiece. I’m really enjoying it, but I periodically just plopped off to sleep today. It’s interesting to me that Keith is enjoying it, but when we turn it off for lots of traffic or because we have to talk about important things (like when to eat or Look! Fall colors!), he never remembers that we are listening to and never turns it back on. Meanwhile, I think we should keep it playing even in the hotel room. It’s a book! Why are we stopping?! The difference between readers and non readers is showing.
We stopped to look at a covered bridge. It was way more fancy than any I have seen before – and I have seen several. I enjoyed tromping over it, looking for information about it. There wasn’t anything posted. I should Google… I am still surprised covered bridges were ever built. Why? To keep the snow off, I assume. Was that a thing? I suppose. This one had a lot of holes for snow to get in. It sure took a lot to build that one – all the decorations and all. I hope snow stayed off.
We stopped in Springfield, MA, to visit the Dr. Seuss sculpture garden (artist is his daughter-in-law). It was rainy on and off today, but not too bad, and it stopped while we were at the garden.
Quiet night in tonight, watching a Clint Eastwood movie (Cry Macho) in the room.
Benjamin is at our house, using it as a quiet place to study for an actuary exam. I just hear that he and his brother went to the zoo today. I could not be happier.
