We are in Madison today. Part of our day was spent with Benjin and Sean. They are thinking about putting vinyl plank flooring in on their main level – or at least part of their main level – and Keith has quite a bit of experience in installing it, so he was giving general instructions for getting started.
Benjamin had spent the day installing a new bathroom exhaust fan. Wheeee. It was not nearly as simple as the instructions made it sound, probably because fan people think you are installing the exhaust fan before the ceiling has been put in. It is a bit more difficult when there is a ceiling in the way. He mentioned that of all of the household fixes he has undertaken, after he has finished, he is not happy to have done any of them. Not that he isn’t glad that they were done, just that he wished he hadn’t been the one to do them.
We told him that the planning for the flooring is the key to it, and that laying it down is actually pretty fun. He didn’t fall for it. 🙂
I’m in sympathy with Benjamin. I HAVE installed a couple of light/heat/vent units in bathrooms, but my sense of victory when it was over was always muted. I WISH I had you guys’ abilities and attitudes – and ability to “get it done right!” Maybe the flooring project will tilt things in the other direction…
I think Keith gets ALL the credit for doing. My job is usually to nod and smile, or take a nap and be out of the way! I am hoping the flooring goes smoothly and that they enjoy doing it.
