High school jazz festival

The big band that Keith plays in – After Hours Big Band – played at Hopkins High School tonight, as the closing act to a three school jazz band concert. I really enjoyed the one band that had a giant instrumentation – apparently everyone in band is invited to be in the jazz band before school and they all come! I watched the kids’ bands from backstage and enjoyed listening to them play, while being able to see the grown-ups waiting backstage. Alex is against the back wall – he was warming up on a drum pad seconds before I snapped the picture.

  1. Oooooooo…. This is GREAT! I love to see folks who understand that young people who play the flute, the euphonium, or the tuba deserve the chance to learn to play jazz as much as trumpet, sax, and trombone players! (Although that young lady playing the flute in the front row DOES need some help with her posture, regardless of what style of music she’s playing!) Wish I had had this opportunity when I was in high school!

    1. Oh my goodness, Jerry, I wanted to walk out on stage and wiggle that girl into an upright position. I actually wondered HOW she was able to even try to play! And, yes, it is wonderful that everyone gets to play.
