House Elves

Alexander’s lawn mower has been broken all summer. He actually borrowed the neighbor’s once in May. He told us. Keith said, “I’ll have to look at it.” He didn’t.

Well, he did, but he didn’t have any tools, so he just looked at it.

Alexander has mentioned the broken lawn mower many times. Every time, Keith says he will have to look at it.

Keith takes care of us. If he says he is going to take care of something, we are off the hook. We no longer have to even think about it. Such a win.

Keith went to Alexander’s house last week to feed the kitties while they were home alone. He saw the lawn at the broken lawn mower house and it was NOT okay. He was in a little tizz, but I told him to calm down, it was all his fault. (See the part about him taking care of us.)

Yesterday, we went to get Alexander for birthday dinner. While we were traveling, he texted to say that he was “calling birthday” and he knew his lawn was awful and we were not going to talk about it on his birthday.

Fair enough. Not a word.

We went back in the late afternoon today to work on it a bit. Keith had a rehearsal, so we had less than two hours. A piece of tree had fallen during the storm Monday, so that was the priority. I started attacking the yard, pulling the big weeds. Luckily, because of the recent rain, they came right out. Unluckily, there were a lot of them. I made some progress…then I mowed the rest down. We brought our mower and exchanged it for Alexander’s, so Keith can look at it. (Oh, I mowed at home before we left.) Keith ran to the compost place after filling the back of the RAV4 with tree and the monster yard bag partially full. We filled it again and took it with us to drop at the compost place that is open tomorrow (nearer to us).

Alexander had no idea we were there – we think. I believe he would have come out if he knew we were there. He doesn’t really ever go to the front of his house, since his family room and kitchen are in the back. I assume when he reads this, he will go out and look. Happy birthday the next day, DD!

  1. Tom likes looking at and fixing lawnmowers. AND has lots of the essential tools for that kind of thing.
