I love airport lounges

Saturday, November 2nd, 2024

We got a credit card that lets us into airport lounges (thanks Daniel). I was so excited. The first one we went to said we couldn’t come there until 3 hours before our flight. Since we had a 5 hour layover, that wasn’t yet.

We went downstairs to try a different lounge. They let us right in. It was very nice. They had a nice selection of food. Keith had a really nice chicken and mushroom thing and I had goldfish crackers with cheese and snack mix.

When it was 3 hours before our flight, we went back to the first lounge. By then, we expected to see our outgoing flight listed on the big board, but it wasn’t there. At the lounge the lady said that was because we were leaving out of terminal 1 and we were in terminal 4. I wonder how we were supposed to know that.

I had chicken biryani and Keith had beef something, then we set out for terminal 1. We had to take the air train. I guess it’s because it’s at an airport it’s called the air train. At no point did I feel that we were flying through air or any special air or anything like it. Well, there was air because we were breathing but I didn’t consider that significant. Well, no, if air had not been there I guess I would have really thought that was significant.

We tried security again but they didn’t want to take our digital boarding passes. We had to go back and stand in line to get a paper boarding pass. The guy asked us if we were taking a cruise. We said yes and he asked for our embarkation information. That was a surprise. Keith had to dig all through his bag and find it and then the guy looked at it very carefully. I asked him what happens to people who are not going on a cruise. He said this just proved we had a reason to go to Italy. Did I need a reason to go to Italy? I did not feel welcome.

As we got to our gate, lo and behold, there was another lounge – literally right at our gate. We went downstairs and had some fruit. I had fruit. Keith had meatballs, cheesecake, and chocolate pudding. Chatted up a lady from Georgia.

When we went back up stairs, at 5 minutes before the time we were supposed to start boarding the plane, half of the plane had already boarded. We were in zone 5. A few seconds after we arrived, They called zones 5 through 8. What is the point in having zones if you’re going to call four of them at once? It was a free-for-all. Luckily since we just had backpacks, we were able to get them in the overhead bins. Now it’s 40 minutes until take off and we are ready to go. I guess we’ll be on time. Gives us extra time to sit in the tiny tiny tiny seat I am in it.

We are flying ITA and I’m not in a big hurry to fly ITA again.
