I’m dreaming of a white christmas

It’s been snowing for two days straight, so it seems unlikely that we won’t have a white Christmas. The temperature is forecast to drop to subzero (that’s below -18C, Sheila) by Monday, so this snow is going to be here for a while. We got a couple inches overnight and my drive to work (short, though it is) was spectacular this morning. So much snow on trees! So pretty.

Tonight, we drove to Wisconsin to see a local production of White Christmas. When we left home, there were a couple rouge flakes falling. We drove on local roads south of the interstate to avoid traffic, then went north to go over the river into Wisconsin. The snow increased steadily as we went north, and we crept along in a blizzardy way on the interstate. I was very glad to be keeping up with traffic, yet only going 35 mph. We left really early, so we had time to spare. We got a great parking spot, but then I made Keith tromp through the snow (the joy of boots!) to take the potd. The trees in the bandshell park on the river (such a summer place for us – I don’t think I’ve ever been by in the winter) were just beautiful. We tried taking pictures, but it was hard because of the falling snow. Instead of walking straight out the exit doors to our car after the show (first car! right there!), we went back to the front doors to tromp back and try to re-take some pictures. It was even prettier without the snow. I couldn’t figure out how to get a good picture – if I got all the trees, they were too far away in the pictures. Imagine the picture is better.

The show was good. Bob Wallace and Phil Davis were top notch. White Christmas is my must-watch Christmas movie, so there is not a note or a line that I do not know. This show was pretty great, because it was not a direct recreation of the movie. The songs were all there, but different people sang them sometimes, and a few times they showed up at different points in the show. I really appreciated not having to remind myself not to make comparisons to the movie.

  1. That is cold! Brrr. It has been -6 here some nights which is plenty cold enough for me.
We had snow a few days ago ( our first since moving to Wales 4 years ago). It was less than a cm but is still hanging around.
    Love the picture. 🙂
