Jushkas!

Donna called on Thursday to say she was in Menomonie at Emma’s house. She rode back from the shower trip with Emma, and they were going to paint the bathroom. She was considering taking the train home, or Michael would come to get her. I said train, but she gets very motion sick, so she was concerned it might not be as fun as when I went. She asked if they could come swimming Saturday and I said YES!

We had a lovely day for floating in the pool. The men had hamburgers with the newly discovered Terrapin Farms hot pepper bacon jam and the ladies had lovely Ceasar salads. The hamburgers smelled really good, so we will probably all have to have some soon.

Keith had a concert with Sheldon Theater brass band tonight. This was his last scheduled subbing on flugelhorn. Thursday the Eb flat player said he might need a sub. There really isn’t anyone else to sub on Eb, so it was decided Jake (subbing on 4th man down) would hop over to flugel if Keith ended up on soprano. Jake has subbed for Keith several times on flugel, and Keith played soprano last Saturday, so both felt it was no problem to bring two different horns and play whichever was required.

Yeah. I’m like that too (no, no I am not).

Keith ended up on soprano and played the Somewhere Over the Rainbow solo feature (and the other songs). It was nice. I assume. I didn’t go, because company was here (we played Rummikub all evening – what a great game. They weren’t going to stay, but now they are staying. Yay). It was Jenny’s last concert with the Sheldon band. She started in January 2007, to play in a band with her dad, Gerry. He played the tuba in the band from its inception in 1989. He passed away in 2019 and we lost an absolutely terrific guy. Jenny decided rehearsals an hour from home every Monday night had run its course, so she is done. I made a cake (lemon with blueberries inside) and they ate it all up. I wasn’t thinking about having any until Keith came home with an empty platter – then I wanted to try it.

I took the picture while the cake was in the freezer. Since it is a hot day, I was afraid the buttercream would melt while it sat during the concert, so I froze the cake. Then I worried that the cake would still be frozen when they tried to eat it. Turns out the cake and frosting were just right, but the blueberries were pretty frozen. Keith said it was fine, and it got all gone, so it turned out okay.
