We went to see a show that was from the Edinburgh fringe festival. There are over a thousand shows that go on during the month of fringe, so I am not sure that having been in it is really saying much, or is it? There are a lot of people with shows that probably don’t get invited in.
It was about a knight who stumbled upon a sword in the stone and became king (familiar? yes). He had a very odd relationship with his horse (Hermes), very well played by a hobby horse. There were several opportunities for someone in the audience to give Hermes a voice, but Hudson-ites and those of us coming over from MN certainly weren’t going to volunteer. I suspect the Scots will be more willing when the show goes back in a few weeks. It was pretty true of all the opportunities for the audience to participate – big DON’T PICK ME eyes instead of volunteering. I am included in that – and I was sitting in the front row. Lame me and everyone else. That said, some of the funniest parts were when she was trying, silently, to get someone to jump in.
The guy next to me was texting throughout the show. We were in a black box theater and the lights were up so the audience could participate, and he was texting. Not all the time, but at least 10 times he took his phone out of his breast pocket and sat there and tapped out a text. It wasn’t really disruptive because the light of the phone wasn’t that noticeable as the lights were already on. But it was freaking weird. The performer was 12 feet away, making eye contact with us, and he is texting. I guess 2025 says don’t call him out, because he might be dangerous. Augh.
The POTD is of art in the gallery because, unlike man next to me, I did not take out my phone during the show and didn’t get a picture. I was clapping then she was gone. Poof.
