Last Pool day until May

Monday, September 26, 2022 (Today would have been my mom and dad’s 69th wedding anniversary)

A long time ago – like 20 or 30 years – my brother said he thought people who lived in Wisconsin (or presumably MN, but I don’t think we lived here yet) (that makes it 30+ years ago) and had pools were ridiculous, because the season is so short. As much as I love a pool, I could not disagree.

Then.

Now, I do. I think we upper midwesterners value, and use, our pools more than year round warm people. I think when it is always there, people start to take it for granted. I think I would. Also, warm weather people often don’t have heaters, so when it does get cool, they are out of luck.

We with short pool seasons are beyond excited in the spring. Almost time to open the pool!!! We are out watching that giant ice cube melt! And then it’s time and we use the pool all the time, because we can! (Do you feel the excitement? You should.)

When fall comes, and we are ready for pool time to be over. It’s done for this year and that’s okay, because we are ready to wear sweaters, and bake, and make Christmas presents. We also know how excited we will be in the spring.

So, I went out one last time. I did lots of dolphin dives, because that is the best part of swimming. I just hopped around, looking at the sun shine on the water. I went underwater and appreciated the new liner. I tried to gently swim under water, but my shoulder said NO. I said, “Bye, pool,” and scurried to the hot tub.

Now it’s hot tub season!
