Let’s All Go to the Lobby

To get ourselves a treat!

We went to a movie premiere tonight!! I read that a local Woodbury man made his first feature length film set in and filmed at our local (now closed forever) drive in movie theater, and that it was premiering at our local theater, The Woodbury 10. I literally jumped up and clicked to get tickets. The theater was pretty full, but we like it down front, so the third row was okay for us. When we arrived, we found out that a second screening was happening 15 minutes later, so they must have had even more interest. Yay for them. The lobby was filled (FILLED) with people when we arrived a half hour early, which just made me happy. The director/writer/producer, Justin, was meeting and greeting people and I overheard him say that he felt like royalty and this night was really a dream come true.

The movie was called Bobby’s Intermission, and it followed loner teenager, Bobby, as he tries to make a short film to submit to try to get into film school. He gets a job at the Vali-Hi and his new friends there help him get the film made. The acting was sometimes pretty mediocre (except Bobby’s little brother, Jimmy, and the theater owner’s wife, Mary. They were natural and really good in every scene they were in) (the awkward bits made me SURE I do not ever want to see myself on Pawn Stars) and the script was predictable and heavy handed, (and sometimes made little sense) (like the theater owner was considering selling because he wanted to live his dream of being a teacher. Um. Really? Didn’t you know teachers have the summer off, when drive-ins are open? Mmm…) but it didn’t matter – IT WAS GREAT!

It was such fun to see places from around town appear as locations and just to imagine these people filming a movie. Everyone from the cast was there and after the movie was over, we saw them all chatting up the fans. The kids looked older, so it must have taken some time to go from filming to being a film. I was hoping the filmmaker would hop up at the end and tell us a bit about his journey, but he didn’t. If this was a movie, he would have.
