Not Great Parking

We got in the car to drive home from Iowa this morning (we didn’t set alarms, but Keith woke up early. When I opened my eyes, he was sitting on the other bed, looking at me. He looked me awake. He swore he hadn’t been staring at me…but…hmmmm), I looked at the GPS and it said 4 hours 28 minutes and I said, “Oh, good. We have time to talk.”

Two things: Why do I never actually know where I am? And why do I not think I have time to talk to Keith at home? Curious.

Anyway, we talked for almost two hours about music and Wurst fest and upcoming music things, then switched over to packing for the brass band trip and all the things that we need to do to get ready for it. We have chosen our West End plays for our two free nights, but don’t have a hotel for anywhere on our trip. Keith thought of checking Royal Albert Hall to see what is on while we are there. There is a concert on Sunday of John Williams v Hans Zimmer. What could be better!? The afternoon show was sold out, so I searched for evening tickets. There were only single seats left. We would be nowhere near each other. One of us will sit on a high seat in an obstructed view area. Keith said, “Both of us, not just one. It will be an adventure!” and got the tickets. I am so glad.

We went to Minneapolis to go to the Stone Arch Bridge Festival before going home. We parked a couple of blocks away, because parking is always a premium. We walked along and as we got closer, we noticed cars going toward where it should be. I suddenly remembered the Stone Arch Bridge is under construction. The last time we made the festival, it had been on the other side of the river.

Augh.

It was really hot and humid, and I was having thumpy heart squeezy feeling, so the going was hard for a while. We had to walk for about half an hour to get to a bridge and over it (we followed a detour sign first. WRONG), so we only had about an hour before the fest ended. We like yard art, so that was the goal…to look and see. We do always try to make a purchase when we visit an art fair, but if we are just walking briskly the same rules might not apply. They applied. We bought a glass art and a Christmas glass art and a yard art! Such good shopping in such a short time. Then it was back over the bridge and to the car (luckily, there was some shade going back).

Keith treated me to the Frodo backpack I saw at the Ordway the other night and we went to the Mall of America to pick it up. Wheeee! It is so cute. My friend, Maren, and I really like the mini backpacks and often shared pictures of new releases. We are very critical if they don’t include a theme zipper pull, because they are such an added bonus. When I zipped open my backpack for the first time to check out the lining, I said, “They missed the boat. There should have been a one ring on the zipper,” and what did I find on the other zipper? A RING! It was like Christmas. Yay.

  1. We were at the Stone Arch Bridge festival too. We also parked on the wrong side of the bridge. We ended up getting back in our car and parked at the Guthrie Theatre parking garage. It was a wonderful time looking at all of the wonderful art talented people had made. Since it was so hot, we bought some ice cream to eat. It was delicious.

    1. We were intimidated by parking on the other side. We considered it practice walking for France next month. 🙂 Aren’t people talented?! We didn’t have time to really see a lot, but, wow
