Only 11 months to wait

We got together with members of the Mississippi River Brass Band today. MRBB (yes, I call it Mr. BB) is planning a trip to France next July. The leader of the group told us all about the planned itinerary and I am ready to pack my bags. Everyone voted to not allow Keith (or anyone) to get sick again. It was a potluck – we smoked a beef and a pork, as we do – and everyone else brought terrific stuff. Don’t you just love that? A friend told me not too long ago that there was a potluck at her church. She said she was quite startled that people did NOT bring their best stuff (WHAT? Don’t you want to take the stuff that everyone raves about? The stuff that is gone first? The stuff people ask for the recipe?) and many people took the “Don’t worry, you don’t have to bring anything if you don’t want to” seriously and came with NOTHING. They had to dig in the church’s stores to find enough for everyone to eat.

That did NOT happen today. We had more than we could eat and it was all delicious.

We planned a pool party and the weather said, “HA!” It was rainy and we had a high of 70. What is that? That is October weather. We set up tables in the basement so there were enough places for everyone to sit and eat indoors and it worked out really well. Jenny asked if there was furniture for my doll house and I showed her and she made everything look very nice. No one is ever too old for a doll house.

Just for fun, the Keith got a text from the power company that told us our power was out. We looked at the every-light-in-the-house that was on and said, “huh.” Then twenty minutes later, the power went out. A few people lingered in the dimness, and we sat and chatted. It’s amazing how many times you realize as the sun is setting it is getting darker and you reach for the light switch. It came on after about two hours and we were happy.

What a happy day!
