We went to Lyric Arts’ opening show of the season, Peter and the Starcatcher, tonight. It was so well done. The show is intentionally anachronistic, and hilariously so. It’s a Peter Pan origin story. It is so cleverly written and staged that every bit of it keeps you on your toes wondering what will happen next.
The cast was simply outstanding. Everyone played multiple roles, including each person portraying part of the set at one time or another (did I mention clever staging?!). It was not billed as a musical, but there were several tunes that advanced the plot and bordered on full-on production numbers.
I loved it. I’m not an obligatory standing ovation giver. I think that everyone slowly gets to their feet during most shows we go to is kind of lame. If you are charged with desire to stand, I don’t think it should trickle out of you – I think you hop up with enthusiasm – as I did tonight.
Bravo, cast!
