We went to a new restaurant tonight. (Keith worked and I pooled and we went to Epcot for Guardians. Our fast pass time kept getting pushed back and we had to scurry to the restaurant via the skyliner – it made it very exciting. We are (not) known for our speediness, so imagine people running through Epcot, but in slow motion, and you will get the picture.)
The new restaurant is at the Caribbean Beach resort, which is on the skyliner route, so it is easy to get to. Dinner is a pre-fixe served family style for $38 (cheap by Disney standards).
Buttery House-baked Pull Apart Rolls with Guava Butter and Caramelized Onion Jam Oh, Caramelized onion jam, where have you been my whole life? I am glad that you have arrived!
The Spice Necklace Salad – Mixed greens with Spiced Candied Pumpkin Seeds, Tropical Fruit, and Radish with Key Lime Dressing It was the best salad Keith has ever had. I kept putting some on my plate, then more, then more, then more. I was trying not to fill up on salad, but I decided that it would be okay, because it was that good. Why? I don’t know. Every part was good.
Oven Roasted Citrus Chicken This was the low point of the meal for both of us. We didn’t taste any tastes other than chicken. It was dark meat, which is not my favorite, so I took a couple tastes and moved on. Keith ate his whole thigh and regretted using up stomach room for something so ordinary.
Slow-cooked Mojo Pork with Mango Sambal I don’t even like mango and this was terrific. The sambal (what is that? I don’t know. It was a little cup of diced mango mixed with something. Really good) was separate and I wasn’t going to try it, but Keith raved and then I ate a lot of it. The pork was porky, but also citrusy. Very tender – we ordered more.
Grilled Chili-rubbed Beef with Mojito Relish We called the mojito relish cucumbers. It looked like diced cucumbers next to the steak. It was good. The steak was thinly sliced, very tender, and had a bit of a zip. We ordered more and I ate it all. No one was surprised by that.
Baked Fish with Veracruz Sauce I didn’t even taste it, but Keith said it was good and he ate most of it.
Cilantro Rice and Beans I don’t do cilantro, but I tasted it. It was not good, but I could have eaten it if I on a deserted island. Keith ate a big pile of it. It was green. That was kinda fun, kinda weird.
Grilled Broccolini Crisp but cooked – I ate most of it. Tasty.
Vegetable Stew This was the surprise hit of the meal – we ordered more. It was a lot of vegetables in some kind of curry sauce that we just loved. I cannot believe we ordered seconds on vegetables – knowing that we could order seconds on dessert!
House-Made Coconut-Pineapple Bread Pudding with Caramel Sauce and Vanilla ice cream This was not a surprise hit – I was expecting to love it. I LOVED It. The cake was so good (cake? Pudding? Whatever) and the caramel sauce was perfect. And there was just the right amount of ice cream to be tasty but not bury it. I wanted to have more, but Keith said he was FULL. He did have to eat the fish all by himself, so I acquiesced.
We took a bus to Disney Springs and listened to a band and shopped around a bit. Then we came home and watched Jeopardy Masters from last night. Go, James!
For some reason I call this place Sebastian Joe’s, even though I know it’s called Sebastian’s Bistro. I recommended it to some people in the elevator. I told them all about it. I was very enthusiastic. They confirmed the name, and I said, “Yup, Sebastian Joe’s.” Keith said, “It’s called Sebastian’s Bistro.” I call a place in the Magic Kingdom Smokey Joe’s. I have no idea what it’s actually called. I must like to name things Joe. I also call Jersey Mike’s, Jimmy John’s. Keith knows that when I say Jimmy John’s, I mean Jersey Mike’s.
