The first class to come to the media center today were second graders. I said that their regular teacher was gone, and I was back.
“I’m Mrs. Thompson. I was here before for Mrs. Simon; you might remember me.”
A girl raised her hand and I acknowledged her.
“Were you one time in music?”
“Yes, I was.”
She continued, “Were you in lunch one time?”
“Yes.”
“Did you come in our room when we were doing animal research?”
“Yes, I did. You guys were making great books about animals.”
“Did you wear pants with Mickey Mouse on them?”
“Yes, I probably did.”
“Did you tell Mrs. Fuller we are your favorite class?”
“Yes, I did.”
“Is your name Mrs. Annabelle?”
A trip at the finish line! And I started with my name…It gives you a good idea of what is important.
At the end of the class period, a boy gave me a drawing – probably because I complimented him on it while he was drawing.
“I made this for you.”
“Thank you.”
He held it up so he could see it and me at the same time – it looked like he was comparing the picture to me.
“Is it me?” I asked.
He sighed. “No, I made it for you, not of you.”
It definitely is what he’d said.
I think it is a pretty great picture by a second grader.
PS I had Maverick later in the day. His library books had disappeared from his backpack, where he had definitely, probably put them.
A sixth grader once gave me a drawing of me riding a dinosaur, which led to much overthinking. (Did he know dinosaurs and humans didn’t exist together? How old do I look? Etc.)
I asked a few questions and he just shrugged and said, “I thought it would be fun for you to ride a dinosaur. )
He was right. That would have been fun.
It’s so great to hear how they think 🙂
Funny! Maybe she likes the name Annabelle and was hoping she could convince you to answer “yes” to it, too.
That is a great picture for a second grader. I think I’m glad it’s not supposed to be you. It (she?) looks angry–maybe it’s a superhero, or a villain. It’s a nice present, either way.
Keith thinks it is a Dragon Ball Z character. He showed me pictures online and I can see it. I am interested in the fact that Keith seemed very knowledgeable about Dragon Ball Z, explaining all about how the character holds his hands, etc.
