Spring is in the air

Saturday, January 27, 2024

Our cold snap is over and it feels like spring. The little snow we had is melting quickly, so we thought we would be bold and take down our Christmas tree.

Yep. We put away Christmas decorations today – one month and two days after the holiday. I usually undecorate on epiphany – the twelfth day of Christmas, but I was in Portugal. I’d hoped to get it done before we left, but I ended up working all the days and it just didn’t happen. Then Keith was too sick to get down the boxes. I looked at the calendar and figured today would be a good day to do it and just enjoyed everything until now. Keith kept saying we should turn the tree off. Nope. It’s here, let’s let it be shiny and beautiful.

The boxes are packed but still sitting here, because I KNOW there are still things lurking. I have walked around and around, but I know when I come down tomorrow, there will be six more things to put away. Or twelve. Tomorrow the snowmen will come in and the boxes will go up and we will start packing for the next trip.

  1. I like to think of the things I find (after the holiday boxes are already in the attic) as surprises left by Santa or his elves. It is kind of them to brighten one more day.

  2. I’m with Louise… It’s just inevitable. And so you know that you’re not “the lone ranger,” Barbara still has to get all of the holiday china out of the cabinet and the “regular” stuff back, and her wrought iron Christmas tree is still up and decorated in her studio along with all the holiday stuff that’s in that room. It’ll come down eventually – same here. We’ve had plenty of other things to keep us busy. The main floor is otherwise pretty much de-Christmas-ized.
