Stylized Hyperviolence

We went to see Deadpool and Wolverine with Alexander tonight. Alexander doesn’t see movies outside the MCU (well, there was that one time we were going to see one movie and realized that a movie that had gotten zero stars from the movie critic at the Star Tribune was playing, and we spontaneously went to that instead. It was set in fantasy ago, and Alexander really liked it. He thought it would have been better with no sound, just time to look at the lovely cinematography and costumes, but that’s details).

He calls the gratuitous, unbelievable violence of Deadpool and the like (Bullet Train, for example. Did you see that? It was good, if you like that sort of thing) (and we do) stylized hyperviolence and today’s movie was extremely full of that. And cameos. And callbacks to previous movies. And breaking the fourth wall. And humor. So much humor. There is a great clip reel over the end credits of many Xmen movies and it felt like seeing old friends.

I took my kid to see it, even though it is not for kids.
