Such a good day

We were expecting company, so we cleaned up all the stuff that has been filling the kitchen island – mostly party supplies – cups, plates, drink dispenser – still lingering because I wasn’t sure I was done inviting people over. I figured this is the official end of summertime, so I could take the stuff back to the basement. Oh sad. But a bunch of space on the island, just waiting for us to fill it up with different stuff, beckons! Such possibilities…

Daniel and Amanda came over (and brought us tiny cans of Starry. No gifts for coming over should ever be necessary, but tiny cans are SO cute! Thanks to them for the fun of small drinks!) and we floated in the pool a bit. Then Barb and Mike surprised us and that was just wonderful. What could be better than more people to talk with while you are floating? Nothing! (Maybe a tiny soda along with the chatting….)

Daniel told us about his solo trip to the fair on Friday. He had to represent his workplace (the Federal Reserve) in the (un-air-conditioned) Education building, then spent time wandering the fair afterward. He brought us news of a new AIR-CONDITIONED building all the way to the north end of the fairgrounds. I can’t remember what he said the building housed (other than AC), but it matters not – my next fair trip will involve a visit there for sure.

Daniel did a truly heroic job of eating at the fair – including several new foods. He waited in a long line for an Amish doughnut – deemed like a Krispy Kreme if they cared about their ingredients and process – and it was delicious. He tried a fried green tomato BLT and said while it was good, it wasn’t worth $15 (oof) (was that the price? I think so) and he wouldn’t have one again. He went for it with a sambusa, a meat pastry showered with African spices, and said it was wonderful. There were more things that I can’t remember….ah…old brain….but he started with mini doughnuts and ended with cheese curds.

Then I wanted cheese curds. As the conversation careened to other topics, I kept mentioning cheese curds. I finally asked where I could get some. Culver’s! After everyone left and we were on our way to the kitties via Culver’s, Daniel texted a picture of Amanda eating cheese curds at Culver’s. Yay! I returned a picture of our bag of cheese curds. Yay!
