Surprise!

We sat down to eat lunch and I was facing the front door. I took one bite, and said, “Keith, there’s a guy in the front yard.” I say things like that (when there is a guy in the front yard) because I am not very interested in interacting with random people (front yard or otherwise). He went right out, and in a minute returned with the news that we were getting our new pool liner today. Now. Huuuuuuh.

When we ordered (last week), they told us it would come in during the last week of July and we could schedule installation at that time. So, having it arrive today with no notice was a lot of a surprise. I was very disappointed, because my brother and brother-in-law were motorcycling up the river road, and I had planned to spend most of tomorrow in the pool with them. I didn’t think we had an option to say no, go away and come again another day…since they were already putting a giant hose in the pool to suck the water out.

One picture is not going to do it for today!

The sides have a super thin foam, and apparently thin sheets of metal behind that.
The workers are cutting out the old liner, and Keith is visiting the deep end of the pool for the first, and probably last, time.
The guys are funneling the last cups of water to be pumped out, while Keith is standing on the pump so it doesn’t tumble in. Using all of the gas we had in the lawn mower gas tank got the job done.
A new guy appeared with a box. Apparently, a new liner can be hauled in by one guy.
The workers were crabby and I ran away. When I came back (in not very many minutes), things were happening.
Whooosh! In it went!
In almost no time, it looked like a pool in search of water. The vacuums on the sides are keeping bubbles from forming under the liner.
I was very excited to get in. I was a little concerned I wouldn’t be able to get out.

I sat here for quite a while because let’s face it, this is not a view I am going to get again – at least not for a while. It was very pretty, very blue. The ripples in the water made amazing patterns on the bottom – I am quite interested to find out if that happens when there is more water.

  1. This is impressive…. And I had no idea that this was what makes a pool look so nice. I guess I thought it was paint or something like that. Fascinating. May the pool quickly fill and have no more issues for a very, very, very long time.

We have learned so so so many things since becoming pool havers. I will happily agree with your no more issues wish!
