The end of a streak

Streaks should be positive. Everything should be positive, right? But sometimes, you get a streak going and it is negative and then it’s a thing and then you can’t break it. In September, I told Alexander after he had not gone in our pool for 5 years of our living here that his streak was long enough and I was going to push him in next time that was an option. It hasn’t been an option yet. Benjamin was interested in having pizza from the pizza oven he gave us for Christmas, so Alexander came for lunch. And then we ALL went in the pool!!! I did not push him in. He went willingly. Woooooo Hoooooooo! Alexander stayed in a long time. He liked it. I know he did.

Before pool time, we were talking about lunch, as you do. Apparently, my writing about Keith not liking sandwiches was news to a lot of people – including Keith, Benjamin, and Alexander.

Of course, the boys don’t know. They are the children. They did not grow up with sandwiches for lunch, because we did not have sandwiches for lunch because the man does not like sandwiches. So, then they say yes, he does. He likes a steak and cheese sandwich from X number of sub sandwich places.

Sigh.

Yes. Yes, he does. He likes HOT food within a tasty, roasted bun. He does not like what I am calling a sandwich – BREAD and some kind of cold filling. No peanut butter (EVER!), no lunch meat, no jelly, no tuna, no day-after-Thanksgiving turkey, no whatever else you could just have in your refrigerator to make a sandwich. I tried explaining to them. They said, “Because all of those things are gross. That is not a sandwich. Well, it is a kind of sandwich, but it’s not really a sandwich, because who eats that?”

Everybody who does not live in our house eats that.

After making sure that Keith has a hot lunch every day for almost 40 years, I am standing by my opinion that he does not like sandwiches. And yes, there are hot foods that are called something sandwiches, but those are not sandwiches.

  1. Sandwiches or not, let’s hear it for getting everyone in the pool!!! (And I’m with you on the much broader definition of “sandwich,” as I’m sure the “Earl of Sandwich” would have been…)

    1. I am the same – a grilled cheese is lovely, but I really prefer a cold sandwich. Of course, you can get into the debate of is a hamburger a sandwich (and I will concede that it is, and yet, it is NOT what we are talking about on your random Tuesday for lunch).
