We were off to Anoka to see the Music Man (with a stop first to pick up Erbert and Gerbert’s sammiches for dinner in the car) tonight. It was wonderful. The whole cast was great, but there was a little (LITTLE!) kid in the ensemble who was outstanding. I couldn’t take my eyes off him whenever he was on stage (which was A LOT. They know what they have in that show stealer).
When Harold and Marian are singing on the bridge, I thought I heard rain. I always think it is rain when the AC kicks in late in a show because the people have heated up the theater. Then it got louder and I thought maybe it was rain (it was). Then it got really loud and it didn’t occur to me that it must be hailing, but it was. We came out after the show to pouring rain. We lingered, hoping it would let up because we were parked a couple blocks away. We chatted with a family who was as impressed with the small singer and dancer (he looked 5 but had to be older given all the dances he learned, all the business he was doing in the background, and his overall poise) and suddenly, there he was, just standing around with his family.
I borrowed a pen from the box office and went and asked him for his autograph. His whole family was delighted. I am in a lot of their pictures. That started a line of fans having him sign his autograph. His older brothers coached him to sign William, not just Will. He is 8-and-a-half. I look forward to seeing him in future shows. William Krueger – you heard it here first.
