Tootsie

I had fairly low expectations about the musical Tootsie. I don’t remember much of anything about the movie, other than the premise – that an out of work actor dresses up as a woman to get work. I didn’t think it would work in 2023. I thought we were past making jokes about men not knowing how to wear pantyhose – as if those still exist.

It worked. It was hilarious. Every single thing that the main character’s roommate, Jeff, said was hilarious. (Jeff was brilliantly played by Jared David Michael Grant – a man with four first names). I missed going on the night when they have the captions going on the side. There were a couple songs with lyrics dense with humor and I would have liked to see the words as I heard them so as not to miss jokes. I know I missed some.

At intermission, I was hungry and for the very first time ever, we bought a snack and a soda. I checked out the options, then just walked away, because we don’t do that. Then I looked again. The line was not long at all. Once Keith figured out that I wanted something, I had something – pretzels and Sierra Mist. I said Sierra Mist, but Sierra Mist is gone. Was it leftover Sierra Mist or was it Starry pretending to be Sierra Mist? It was tasty.

  1. We saw Tootsie 10 days ago in MKE. It was hilarious, especially the second act. The same 4 names guy played Jeff. He is perfect in that role. It was a very small crowd in MKE. Lots of people missed a terrific show.

    1. It looked like we were going to have a small audience, but everyone showed up at the last minute and we had a full house. Too bad the Milwaukee-ans missed out. I wish I could remember some of the things Jeff said – all hilarious. When the Jeff and Michael were just sitting on the couch staring had me really laughing.
