The potd is my new irises I got from my friend, Betsy, last year. Or the year before. If it was two years ago, the bunnies ate them last year, because nothing grew last spring. If it was last year, yay transplanting! I can see them out the front window every time I come down the stairs and have really enjoyed watching them get ready to flower. Sean left me a tomato plant yesterday and Keith remembered and got outside to plant it in the rain before we left. He is so good.
We remembered the calla lilies hiding in the furnace room late again this year. Surprise! They had been growing. They were nearly white, and the stems were completely soft with the leaves on the ground. I said just set them out and see what happens. I did not expect such success ever, much less in a week.
We took a 3.5 hour drive toward Branson, MO, our next vacation destination tonight. We are in Ames, Iowa, former home of Dan Kuhsan from Iowa. Keith picked Ames just because Daniel went to school here.
We were driving through the rain when Benjamin called. He was outside juggling in beautiful, hot weather in Madison. He wanted to tell us a story, “The bride from Wednesday’s wedding went to take the marriage license to the state people today.”
I gasped. “Are you expired? Did the marriage get cancelled?”
“No. I was fine. She gave the guvmint lady the paperwork to check out – bride, groom, two witnesses, officiant….. Benjamin Thompson…I know a Benjamin Thompson. OH! You’re Steveah!”
Steveah is Benjin and Sean’s portmanteau of the bride and groom’s names. Apparently, Emily’s sister (from Snake Escape fame) is a guvmint lady now who processes marriage licenses.
What a small world (and we are out in it).
Yea to the yellow iris!
Yay indeed! They are just wonderful!
