Up on the housetop

There were almonds! And I loved it.

We went to the Norway House, a cultural center in Minneapolis, for their Gingerbread Wonderland. My friend, Carla, who is most excellent at planning adventures, suggested it a couple weeks ago. We gathered for a pizza lunch, with the most amazing cherry Bundt cake with cream cheese frosting (made by Carla) for dessert, then headed to see Gingerbread wonders.

We thought it was going to be houses done by professionals, but it turned out that anyone could bring their creation and add it to the fun. Although professional work would have undoubtedly been amazing, it really was more fun to see what regular people came up with. There was one done by the pros. I will include it in the gallery – see if you can guess (you can guess!) which one it is. There was a scavenger hunt – and we won candy canes for doing a good job of finding all the things.

  1. This is a really tough one – there’s some pretty fabulous work here. The creativity level is pretty amazing. In fact, I think you and Keith should put something together for next year. You two can do things as good or better. I’m probably wrong in both instances, but my two possibilities for the “pro” productions are the one with the book, note to Santa, etc. and the Iceland Air. I just can’t make up my mind. And I can clearly see my way to believe that many others COULD be “pro” pieces. I think this was a very good investment of time….

    1. It is the book/note to Santa, although the Iceland air one was sponsored by someone, so I think they were seasoned amateurs. We had some fun imagining what we might create!

  2. I was impressed with the book, too. And how did somebody make those stained glass looking triangles? I have a Bundt cake pan that has a window pattern on the sides, and you’re supposed to make it look like stained glass using decorating gel and a brush. It doesn’t when I do it, but it’s fun, anyway.
