Apparently, we don’t have eyes.
Our roof has hail damage, so we are looking at getting a new roof. Keith got samples of the roofing material, so we can pick out the color we want. We looked at the samples and said, “Obviously not black, because our house is brown.” We went outside to look at the house and the samples and found out our current roof is pretty much black. Huh.
I suggested a reddish shingle because our brick has red. Keith disagreed. He sees no red at all in our house. He held up the red to the side of the house and said, “Wow. It is red. I never noticed. I only see brown.” I said, “I see lots of red, with brown as well.” We narrowed our choices down to six choices – browns and reds. That is not very narrow.
Since it was a STUNNING 80-degree day, I suggested we drive around the neighborhood looking at roofs. We went around a couple of blocks and decided we couldn’t remember what our house looked like and came home. I took a picture, to help us remember. The color doesn’t show really well, so it was pretty useless. We drove around some more. We decided that we really, really never look at roofs and therefore, whatever color we pick doesn’t really matter. We looked at our old house and I asked why we had put a black roof on a brown and stucco house and Keith said it was actually dark brown but does indeed look black.
There are apparently no other houses in our neighborhood with the same color brick as ours. But I am 50/50 on whether we would have recognized it if there are.
There are some houses in our neighborhood with really great roofs that pick up the color of the house and the shutters and look terrific. There are houses that made me say (way too loudly for being in a convertible), “That is awful. It doesn’t go together at all.”
We decided we don’t really go for a roof that matches the house; we like a bit of contrast. Now we have to figure out what color our house is, so we can contrast.
Alexander probably knows your house color. 😀
That’s it! We will ask him!
You know, you COULD consider doing a metal roof and never having to roof the house again. And the metal comes in ALL KINDS of cool colors. Just a thought….
I do think we should check them out.
