We just keep saying, “We’re in Hawaii,” so it must be true.
We have a great balcony with a table and four chairs. We trickled down this morning as we woke up and ended up out on the balcony. We have trees to look at (with golfers just beyond) and birds to listen to. There were many, many, many birds we have not seen before. Some turkeys came by to visit as well.
We went to a Hawaiian BBQ place for lunch, which really isn’t BBQ at all, but we all really enjoyed it.
We spent a quantity of time in the grocery store. Keith said we had to walk down every aisle, to see all the different things. We were very amused that the store brand (Essential Everyday) was the same brand as at Cub Foods at home. We did find a few unusual things – lots of purple bakery items made from Ube and a giant eggs slicer. Keith joked that maybe it was for slicing Spam. Then I saw another one that did not leave it to the imagination – definitely for Spam.
We all just put whatever we wanted into the cart – and traded off who was pushing the cart – and spent a huge amount of money. Gary pointed out that we hadn’t actually purchased any food – just snacks. We corrected him – we have Cheerios, eggs, and Spam, so we are in a really good place for breakfast. We carefully put everything in the back of our Chrysler van for our less-than-a-mile trip home, then everything slid everywhere on the way down a little hill, then up a little hill. You could not have scattered things better if you tried.
After shopping we spent the next five hours sitting on the balcony feeling the warm air and enjoying the beautiful day. We talked about everything and nothing. It was perfect. We’re in Hawaii.
Ok do tell, are you on the Kona side or Hilo side? I think Kona. Enjoy. I agree with comment yesterday, drive around the whole island. It doesn’t take long but it can be stopping at waterfalls, shaved ice, other parks etc…enjoy!
We are in Waikaloa on Kona side. We are following an audio guide north and to Hilo today.
According to my sister (a world traveler like you), your afternoon activity (sitting on the the balcony) means this truly is a VACATION, not a TRIP. Hope you have many more VACATION days!!
I use vacation v travel 🙂 I think this trip will be a traveling vacation!
